Louisville, KY. -- The Principia Panther's traveled to Kentucky to play their first conference game of the season in a tough match up versus the Spalding Golden Eagles. Last year, Spalding went undefeated in the SLIAC, winning the regular season championship. Coming into the 2017 season Spalding was favored to win the conference once again.
The Panthers came out ready to take it to the Eagles in a much anticipated first conference game. They took it to Spalding early and kept the play in the attacking third for most of the first half. Just 11 minutes into the game after a couple chances, George Agai dribbled through two defenders and played a diagonal ball back to Kaleb Keller who one timed it into the far side of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Panther's continued their good play throughout the first half and found the goal a second time just before half. Carson Hussey flicked a ball on which David McLeod-Warrick, hammered a header off the cross bar and in the goal to take a 2-0 lead just before half.
The second half proved to be a scrappy and sloppy half with Principia battling the conditions as well as the relentless Spalding attack. The men dug deep and hung on for the big 2-1 victory to open up conference play!
