Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball celebrates senior Liz McAloney in game against Spalding

Elsah, ILL.  – The Women's Basketball team hosted Spalding University, a SLIAC opponent from Louisville, Kentucky. Spalding came out right away pressing the Panthers causing some early turnovers and led 19-4 after the first quarter.  The second quarter was much better as Principia scored 14 against Spalding's 21 points.  But in the third quarter Principia only scored 2 points.  As shots did not drop for the Panthers, the team only shot 24% for the game while Spalding shot 39% from the field.

Good to Know:
Sabrina Netherwood was recognized by her teammates again for her strong boxing out throughout the game, along with Nikki Matters as they both had 9 rebounds.  Nikki Matters led in scoring with 15. Sophia Hathaway had 7 points for the game.  The team honored Liz McAloney as she is a senior graduating in December.  She was 2 for 3 from the line and had 5 rebounds.

They said it:
"This was a bit disappointing as we had played well against Greenville, but let the tenacious defense by Spalding dictate our play.  Our turnovers were a main factor and we didn't shoot as well as we can. The team will bounce back and play better on Thursday when we travel to Fontbonne University."
