Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Panthers Handle Griffins in 87-72 Point Victory

The Principia Panthers traveled to Fontbonne University to take on the Griffins in their last conference road game of the season. Principia won the first matchup 83-78 and looked to sweep the series. Lockdown defense and consistent offense led to a big win for the Panthers with a final score of 87-72.

Principia started off the game really sluggish on the defensive end and allowed the Griffins to jump out to an early 5 point lead. The Griffins attacked the offensive glass and were able to get several easy put back buckets. A three pointer by Parker Davidson at the 13 minute mark gave the Panthers their first lead of the half. A scrappy Fontbonne team fought back on a 5-0 run to take a 4 point lead as both teams battled back and forth. Immediately after the Fontbonne run the Panthers locked in defensively and went on a 9-0 scoring run of their own to snatch a 5 point lead. Both teams would play the remainder of the half even as the Panthers kept that 5 point lead heading into the locker room.

The second half belonged completely to Principia as they locked in on both ends of the floor. Parker Davidson hit a three to get the offense going and TreVaughn Goodman was able to complete two consecutive and 1 plays to stretch the Panther lead. Principia's offense was cooking as they opened the second half on a 20-7 scoring run in the first 7 minutes to balloon their lead to 18 points. Principia continued to play inspired basketball as they held Fontbonne in check while continuing to score the ball. A layup by Parker Davidson gave the Panthers their biggest lead of the night at 25 points and they would not look back. Despite only shooting 9 free throws to the Fontbonne 32, the Panthers won the game by 15 points on 59.7% shooting from the field. Consistent play on both ends of the floor allowed Principia to take an 87-72 point road victory.

Notable Performance:
Senior Parker Davidson continues his excellent play in his last few games with another monster double-double. He finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds. In his last two games Parker is averaging 37 points per game and 18 rebounds while shooting 75% from the field.
