Mobile, AL. -- After three days of two-a-day training in Gulf Shores, the Sandy Panthers traveled to Mobile to compete against NCAA D2 Spring Hill College, and NAIA William Carey. In the first match, Principia fell to Spring Hill, but it was easy to see some specific progress based on the technical and strategical training over the last few days. The Panthers looked much better on the 1
st contact – serve receive and defense. A little more grit and some technical attention to those 1
st contacts helped Principia have more chances to work their offense, and show a bit more variety. Spring Hill always pushes us, and the team always responds with some good play.
In the second match of the day Principia swept William Carey 5-0. #5s
Mesa Goebel and
Sarah Ungerleider beat WCU 21-10, 21-17. #4s
Emma Herman and
Makena Patterson took their match 21-12, 21-15. #3s
Amanda Roberts and
Victoria Vandiver won 21-17, 21-11. #2s
Cha Cha Fisher and Emelie Fredrickson kept the trend alive with a 13-21, 21-18, 15-10 win, and #1s
Devon Marunde and
Nikki Matters completed the sweep with a 21-11, 21-14 victory.
Coach Sprague commented, "It was great to get this team victory, and it was awesome to see the training work we have been doing show up in the women's competition today. Our week has been devoted to bold intentionality, and I saw it. That makes me happy."
