Greenville, IL. -- Principia traveled to Greenville, IL today for a conference match up against the Greenville Panthers who are currently leading the conference. The Panthers came out with some bite, but ultimately fell to Greenville.
Game 1:Â Principia 2, Greenville 6
The Panthers came out swinging, so to speak, with strong defense and offense. After a slow offensive first inning, the Panthers had some catching up to do when Greenville put up a couple of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Principia's offense worked the zone well and got the hits they needed to answer. A combination of solid defense and timely hits kept the game close. A few mental and physical errors in the third inning cost the Panthers runs that they couldn't quite get back. However, the precision and fight displayed by the Panthers was encouraging. With flawless defense and a couple more timely hits, the Panthers are toe-and-toe with the number one team in the conference. Hits for game one go to
Hannah Hathaway with two doubles,
Leah Schaefer with a single and a double, and
Lauren Daugherty with her second home run of the season.
Game 2:Â Principia 1, Greenville 10
Principia came back out for game two with the same energy and focus they had in game one. However, Greenville consistently had runners in scoring position that crossed the plate with hits that Principia's defense just couldn't get to. Principia quickly fell behind and didn't produce the offense they needed to keep the game within reach. With only two hits for the game, the Panthers were only able to bring in one run. Despite some well-placed balls hit by Greenville, the Panther defense was able to get themselves out of some very tough situations. The Panther's two hits for the game go to
Hannah Hathaway with a single, and
Lauren Daugherty with a double.
