Principia Men's Soccer entered the Tuesday night competition with a 3-0 record in the SLIAC, while Greenville hoped to bounce back after a tough loss to MacMurray.Â
The teams were evenly matched for much of the first half, but Principia led the statistics from the start. At halftime the score was 0-0 with Principia taking 11 shots to Greenville's 3.Â
It didn't take long for Principia to get on the board in the second half. Â In the 52
nd minute,
Patrick Sherman assisted
Cole Heinbaugh, who collected the ball on the top of the 18 and with two touches Heinbaugh went past 3 Greenville defenders and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.Â
The Principia Men stayed on top of Greenville and kept the ball forward, minimizing Greenville's chances to attack. In the 81
st minute,
Seth Arens intercepted a pass from a Greenville defender and found
Kaden Keller who finished decisively with a shot into the bottom right corner.
Principia's defense was strong and organized throughout the match, led by Captain
Carson Hussey and senior goalkeeper
Nick Klusmeyer. Klusmeyer made 3 saves on the night. Greenville's goalkeeper, Nick Holland, had a strong game with 6 saves.
Principia played a strong game with organized defense and creative attack. They will keep working to build on this performance in their remaining 5 SLIAC matches. The Principia Men host Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday at 3PM in what should be a Homecoming classic. Â
