Louisville, KY. -- Women's soccer traveled to Louisville this weekend to play the Spalding University Golden Eagles. It was a dreary rainy day. Both teams came into the game with a conference record of 3-3 but the Eagles ended the game with the 4-3 record. The first half the Panthers were mostly under attack by the Eagle offense and as an Eagle spectator it would seem like it was only a matter of time. That time would came with a few minutes left in the half when the Eagles scored near post off a corner kick. The Panthers found themselves in an equalizing opportunity with a corner of their own with 20 seconds left but time ran out with the ball at
Georgia Rather's foot right inside the top of the 18.
The half ended with the Panthers trailing by 1.
The second half Principia came out strong and had solid possession to get things going. Ultimately though, Spalding kept knocking on the door. The Eagles found the back of the net a second time on a solid cross and back post finish. Principia kept fighting and moving the ball forward as a group but just could not connect to finish. In the 74th minute, lightning struck and the game took a 30 minute hold. The Eagles came back ready to fight and in the final 15 minutes finished one goal and Principia gave up an own goal. The game ended 0-4 in favor of the Eagles.
The Panthers play again Tuesday at home against Webster University at 6:00 pm.
