Eureka, ILL. -- The women's soccer team traveled to play Eureka College in their second conference game of the season. The Panthers got on the board in the first 5 minutes of the game with a goal from
Hannah Sipe. It was another composed goal by Sipe, who slotted the ball past the Eureka keeper. With the Eureka defense packing it in, playing tough, the Panthers struggled to score again until the 30th minute when
Brittany Ouellette dribbled the ball inside the 18, drawing a foul for a pk. Ouellette scored the pk to put the Panthers up 2-0. The Panthers scored again one minute later by
Georgia Rather with an assist from Sipe. The Panthers ended the half 4-0 after our sister-sister connection,
Sophia Hathaway played the ball to
Hannah Hathaway for the final goal of the half.
Eureka came out fighting in the second half, making things difficult for the Panthers to build a successful attack. They kept the Panthers scoreless until the 72nd minute when Sipe dribbled the ball, played it to
Sophia Hathaway who returned the ball back to Sipe for the goal. Four minutes later, the Panthers crossed the ball into the box for an unfortunate own goal by an Eureka defender to put the Panthers up 6-0. The Panthers finished the game out 7-0 when
Yana Wood crossed the ball into the box to
Desmar Ngei who calmly collected and finished.
Ngei had a solid game tonight, consistently making runs and running the line. Outside back,
Taylan Hayes gave energy to the attack as she flew down the line supporting the play and sending in crosses.
Hannah Hathaway was a spark plug out of goal today as outside midfield and defensive midfield.
Goalkeepers
Rachel McLeod-Warrick and
Louisa Hansen both made big saves tonight to keep Eureka scoreless. McLeod-Warrick with a block in a 1v1 situation and Hansen with the catch save on a Eureka free kick outside the 18.
The Panthers play again Saturday against Blackburn College in Collinsville, IL.
