Fort Wayne, IN. -- The Principia beach volleyball team traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana to host an indoor beach volleyball tournament to kick off the 2019 collegiate season. A field of five teams – Tusculum University (NCAA D2, Greenville, TN), Carson Newman University (NCAA D2, Jefferson City, TN), Morehead State University (NCAA D1, Morehead, KY), Stevenson University (NCAA D3, Stevenson, Maryland) and Principia will play a round robin over two days.
Principia competed with Carson Newman first, and came away with a 3-2 victory. There was a lot of good solid play, tough aggressive serving, and gritty teamwork involved in this victory.

The second match of the day Principia played Tusculum University, and after four of the five matches went to a 3
rd and deciding game, Principia lost 5-0. The women looked tired after hours in the deep sand, and battled mentally and physically to go after the "w".
Marunde and Warner lost 12-15 in the deciding game after a back and forth battle of ball control and defense.
Hathaway and Matters lost 13-15 in the deciding game against some tough and able play from their opponents.
Goebel and Ungerleider lost 12-15 in the deciding game showing great discipline and perseverance.
Roberts and Vandiver lost in the deciding game after a 18-21, 21-18 set up.
Bayne and Patterson, as well as Sperr and Webster lost in two.
