Softball: Day 3 at Myrtle Beach- Spring Break Games

Myrtle Beach, SC. -- On day three at Myrtle Beach, the Panthers played Sarah Lawrence and University of Maine- Presque Isle. It was a cold day and the Panthers were ready to leave their mark here in Myrtle Beach. The weather was not as pleasant as the girls would have liked it to be, but it didn't stop them from preparing themselves for a good day of softball.

Game 1: Principia 0 Sarah Lawrence 10
The Panthers got to play Sarah Lawrence once again. After the last game against them, the Panther were ready for a rematch. Both teams came ready to play hard and leave it all out there on the field.

The Panthers did not start off as strong as they were hoping to. Both teams made mistakes but the Panthers made a few more that ended up costing them later. Sarah Lawrence scored in the first inning and the Panthers could not hit of off their pitcher at all. Sarah Lawrence was able to find the gaps in Principia's defense and there was not much the team could do to stop the Gryphons from scoring runs.

On offense the Panthers really struggled at the plate. Leah Schaefer was the only player to hit the ball twice and get on base, both hits being doubles. The Panthers could not make their adjustments and hit the ball.

Game 2: Principia 3 University of Maine- Presque Isle 11
After a tough loss in the first game, the Panthers were ready to leave it all out there on their last game of spring break.

The defense had been struggling all break and they had had enough of it. The first inning for the Panthers was solid and looked amazing. Routine outs were made and it was an easy three up three down. After that first inning, the University of Maine Presque Isle started to hit the ball hard and well, and the Panthers found it difficult to get outs. Again there were several mistakes made throughout the game that didn't help the Panthers get the win they were hoping for.

Once again the offense started off solid with hits by freshman Delaney Gatine who had a single along with Alyssa Hudenburg, Genie Nyiramana and Christina Redington and Lauren Daugherty, who had a double. After the first inning of amazing hitting the Panthers couldn't find the ball with their bat and struggled to score again through the rest of the game.

The Panthers Play again Saturday for the first conference game at home against Iowa Wesleyan at 1pm and 3pm.
