Chesterfield, MO. -- The beach volleyball team was sporting some new partnerships today after spring break and it was fun to watch each team communicate and play with someone new.
Amanda Roberts and
Nikki Matters played a tight match at #4. They made Missouri Baptist work hard for the win. They served tough and played with grit.
Devon Marunde and
Makena Patterson took their opponents late into a 3rd game as the #2 Prin team. Their first game was stellar with consistency and boldness, forcing Mo Bap into too many errors and taking the win. The next two were up for grabs and even though Mo Bap sharpened up, Devon and Makena stuck with it until the end.
Hayden Warner and
Sophia Hathaway combined at the 1s and both put the ball away well. A few too many serving errors and less than stellar serve receive (in some very deep sand) put them in a tough position to compete for the win today.
#3s
Victoria Vandiver and
Jessica Bayne did a nice job with changing defensive responsibilities from spring break. They showed a capable offense and spurts of very tough serving.
Mesa Goebel and
Sarah Ungerleider played with their usual passion and determination at #5s against a very solid Mo Bap team that successfully found the sand on offense. They also served tough making it hard on the Prin duo to get their foot in the door.
Anna Webster and
Kiona Sperr competed at #6 and these two never let a ball drop without going after it. Facefulls of sand and horizontal layouts, time after time - they never stop the pursuit. Their serve receive was the speed bump that kept them from being competitive. What a great energy though!
Principia has over a week to get some serious training in to prepare for their home tourney April 5-6!
