Softball drops two to the Westminster Blue Jays

Elsah, ILL. -- Tuesday night Principia faced Westminster for their second round of conference games of the season. Even though Principia could not take any wins from Westminster, they didn't give up on the field and battled through every inning.

Game 1: Principia 4 Westminster 17
The Panthers had a great start to the games, even though the outcome wasn't what they were expecting. The first couple of innings were played amazingly by both teams battling back and forth. Several mistakes were made in the fourth inning that took the Panthers out of the game sooner then they would have liked.

The Panthers' defense was solid, only letting the Blue Jays score two runs in the first inning and nothing in the second. After the second inning, the Panthers started to make one mistake after another and got themselves into a hole that they would struggle getting out of. In the fourth inning the Blue Jays scored one run after another, but the Panthers did not surrender and got their three outs. Leah Schaefer battled hard on the mound, putting balls into play and getting outs for her team.

The Panthers worked hard to put runs on the board to answer the Blue Jays' effort to keep Principia out of reach of the win. Even though the Panthers didn't score anything in the first inning, they did in the second, putting them one run ahead of the Blue Jays. After a few innings of not scoring, the Panthers put up one more run in the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough to beat the Blue Jays. All but three players hit a single and Hannah Hathaway and Leah Schaefer both hit doubles.

Game 2: Principia 0 Westminster 11
The Panthers were not satisfied with their result in the first game and were ready to play another game against a very good team. The Blue Jays started the second game where they left off in the first, hitting hard balls and playing solid defense. On the other hand, the Panthers were having a hard time making adjustments to the new pitcher and the defense was still making some errors.

In the first inning, the Blue Jays scored six runs right off the bat, then they scored again in the second and third innings before the Panthers shut them down for the next two innings. Leah started off the second game pitching and then in the fourth inning Alyssa Hudenburg came in for her. The Panthers once again had several errors that didn't help them with their result, but once again they fought through every inning to get their outs. Offensively the Panthers had a hard time hitting the ball at all. Whenever there was a good hit, the Blue Jays made a good play to get an out for their team. The only two Panthers to get hits were Delaney Gatine and Alyssa Hudenburg, who both had singles.
