Elsah, ILL. -- The Panthers hosted the Eureka Red Devils for a conference double header today. Eureka entered the series 8-13 overall with a 3-6 conference record. Principia was 6-11 and 3-5 respectively.
Alex Stamos received the nod for the Panthers. Eureka jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring 4 runs on 4 hits. Eureka threw a lefty that gave the Panther bats some fits.
Zach Grennie singled in the first but the Panthers were unable to capitalize. Eureka took advantage of a leadoff walk in the second and plated their 5
th run. Stamos settled in and was lights out the remainder of the game keeping Eureka from scoring again. The Panthers tallied five hits but were only able to score one run on a
Jack Adler home run in the 6
th as he tried to spark a late comeback. The Panthers lost game one 5-1.
Aleq McMullin got the start in game two. Eureka jumped out to an early lead scoring one in the first. Eureka added a second run in the third to stretch the lead to 2-0. Eureka added two more runs in the fifth. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, down 4-0,
Sean Hannan doubled to left field which was followed up by a single by
Liam Foster to score the first Panther run and cut the lead to three. In the bottom of the 7
th,
Ryan Eisenauer led things off with a single.
Blake Lesky singled on a perfectly placed bunt that stopped inches from the third base line that Eureka let go in hopes it would roll foul. After the runners advanced on a wild pitch,
Stephen Strong lifted a sac fly to centerfield to score Eisenauer to make the score 4-2. Grennie grounded to the third basemen who's error allowed a run to score and let Grennie advance to second. With their lead cut to one, Eureka elected to make a pitching change.
Chris Stamos singled to left field plating Grennie and tying things up at 4. Eureka made another pitching change bringing their third basemen into pitch. With two outs, Foster grounded to the new third basemen who made an error allowing Adler to score the go ahead run.
Sean Hannan picked up his first save of the season going a scoreless eighth and ninth.

The Panthers will face Webster University this coming Tuesday at home starting at 5pm and 7pm in a midweek conference matchup.
