Principia College Take Series With Road Win

Carlinville, ILL. -- Principia College traveled to Carlinville, IL to take on the Blackburn Beavers in a rescheduled doubleheader.  Game one the Panthers came out swinging.  In the first after two quick outs, a hit by pitch and two walks loaded the bases for the Panthers and Aleq McMullin doubled to clear the bases to put the Panthers up 3-0.  In the third, freshman Chris Stamos doubled in a run to make the lead 4-0.  Will Adler hit his first collegiate home run to score two more.  Jack Adler, who reached on a hit by pitch, scored on a sac fly by Stephen Strong to stretch the lead to seven.  Chris Stamos helped his own cause by singling in Sean Hannan in the top of the fourth.  Chris Stamos was on the mound for the Panthers in game one and kept the Beavers off the board until the fourth.  With two outs and the bases loaded, a single scored two to cut the Panther lead to 9-2.  The Panthers weren't done and scored four more in the fifth, two more in the sixth, and two more in the seventh to take a 17-2 lead.  Nathan Wood entered to pitch for the Panthers in the sixth and after giving up a leadoff single, buckled down and got the 5-4-3 double play to end any threat.  In the seventh, a leadoff triple followed by a walk and a single allowed the third and final Beaver run to score.  The Panthers took game one 17-3 with twelve hits and no errors.

Game two featured Alex Stamos on the mound for the Panthers on short rest and he gave a stellar performance.  Unfortunately Blackburn's starter Tyler Jackson threw a gem and kept the Panthers off the board until the eighth only surrendering two hits in his eight innings pitched.  Errors ended up costing the Panthers as Blackburn picked up two unearned runs in the first.  A third run in the fourth was all the scoring for Blackburn as they totaled three runs on six hits.  The Panthers scored their lone run in the eighth on a Stephen Strong double that scored Will Adler who walked and stole second.  The Panthers threatened in the top of the ninth when Hannan reached on an error to lead off the inning.  Liam Foster singled to put the tying run on base. With two outs, Will Adler drew a walk to load the bases but a strikeout ended the game.

Up Next:
The Panthers travel to Lincoln, IL to face Lincoln Christian University this Thursday in the final non-conference matchup of the year.  This Saturday Principia will host the Westminster Blue Jays for a double header beginning at 1/3pm.  The Panthers will recognize their seniors between games.  Hope to see you there!
