Panther Softball walks away with a split against Webster University

Elsah, IL.-- This weekend, the Panthers walked away with a split against Webster on parents' weekend. Principia was fired up and ready to show their parents how much they loved playing together and how well they worked as a team to defeat tough opponents. Webster was going to be a good game for the Panthers and they sure were ready for them.

Game 1: Principia 1 Webster 7

In game one, the Panthers started off very solid. Both teams put up runs in the first inning but after that, Webster was the only team to keep putting up runs. Both teams had several good defensive innings. The Panthers had a hard time finding the ball with the bat and brining runners home. Even though the offensive side of the game was a bit of a struggle, they took care of things on defense. In the whole game the Panthers only had three hits, which made it hard to get runs on the board. Senior Ashley Noville had two singles and Junior Hannah Hathaway hit a double. The defense of the Panthers was very solid for several of the innings. They only had one inning that got away from them, but even then they were able to hold Webster off to only three runs. Senior Leah Schaefer pitched a good game, having a few strikeouts that helped the team out.

Game 2: Principia 5 Webster 2

After the first game, the Panthers were not about to walk away with two loses on family weekend. They were ready to battle and fight until the end to take away a win for Principia. The Panthers ended very strong in game one and picked up their defense in game two, making three outs right off the bat and hitting hard to put up three runs. After the first inning, Webster held them off until the fifth inning when Principia put up two more runs to give them a bit more cushion going into the last two innings. Several of the Panthers had singles in the game and Delaney Gatine, Alyssa Hudenburg, Lauren Daugherty, and Leah Schaefer all had doubles. The Panthers increased their hitting by a lot, having 10 hits in the second game which helped them get on top. When it came to playing defense, the Panthers shut down Webster hard, making several great plays to get runners out of scoring positions. Webster only scored in the third inning and that was all that the Panthers would allow. The Panthers were pumped up after each out and the loud cheers from the crowd really helped the Panthers.

The Panthers play again at home against Stephens College on Tuesday the 23rd at 5 and 7.
