Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer wins home opener

Elsah, IL--The Principia women's soccer team started their campaign with a decisive victory over the Alverno Infernos. Despite lightning delay and double overtime before their start of their game, the women showed up to play.

Rain poured the whole time, but the women didn't let it affect them. The result was that PCWS was up 1-0 in the first two minutes on a goal from senior Sophia Hathaway. A volleyball star, Sophia decided to user her 5th fall as a soccer player and clearly didn't want to waste a single minute. Not too long after, freshman Georgia Rather put in her first goal of the game and her first goal of her collegiate career. Rather scored her second goal midway through the first half.

The Infernos would not be stopped though. They too fought the entire game forcing the game to go up and down the field. One such attack resulted in a skirmish in the box and Alverno getting enough on the ball to put it in the Panther net. 3-1 now.
Hannah Sipe, a junior, was not to be denied. Working well with Rather, Viviane DeCastro, and Brittany Ouellette, she was creating a lot of opportunities for Principia's attack. Sipe scored her first goal on a beautiful teamwork play. This took the teams into halftime 4-1 in favor of Principia.

The second half was a quick one with the weather not letting up, but before the game could be called, Ouellette beat a player one v one and gracefully slid the ball past the keeper. That would be the final goal of the game.

It was a good for first match for the Panthers who host Rose Hulman on Tuesday at 7:30pm.
