Indianola, IA. -- The volleyball team traveled to Simpson College to compete against some tough upper Midwest teams this weekend.
A Look at the Weekend
On Friday the lady Panthers took on host Simpson and fell in three straight sets. Simpson served Principia deep, pushed the pace of the game, and were gritty on defense, and Principia never found their team rhythm. There were some gallant individual efforts, but it never felt "as one". This squad needs that vibe to reach their potential.
Amanda Roberts served up 2 aces, and
Nikki Matters,
Mesa Goebel and
Greer Sprague each added an ace as well. Setter
Devon Marunde brought all the right energy and played some soulful defense picking up a team high 14 digs.
Sarah Ungerleider led the team's offense hitting .300 for the match.
Saturday morning the Panthers played UW- River Falls, and the "w" went to the bad guys. UW played the game well and pushed the Panthers to come together and play more unified. Principia struggled with serve receive but did some nice things on defense.
Devon Marunde led the defensive effort, reading hits and picking up a bunch of digs.
Mesa Goebel and
Sarah Ungerleider did a nice job in the middle using the whole court offensively. Outsides
Nikki Matters and
Jessica Bayne worked to mix it up with their offense, picking and pounding.
