Elsah, IL - the Panthers faced Spalding University today in a light rainy match. The surface was wet, and the ball moved quickly. It was a close game with both teams getting into their attacking thirds. Spalding would have more shots at goal and scored a few quick goals if not for Panther keeper
Leslie Barrera. Barrera prevented a few one-on-ones at goal. The Panthers would get in their attacking third but have difficulty getting around Spalding's defense for a shot. Spalding would finally catch the Panther defense off balance/cover and capitalize a shot inside the 18. The half would end with the Panthers trailing by 1.
The second half would be similar to the first, with both teams battling to score. Spalding's offense would keep knocking on Panther's door, but the Panther defense, led by
Olivia Scott,
Kiona Sperr,
Edner Oloo, and
Sophie Hills, would keep them from entering. Unfortunately, Spalding would score another goal from a pk to get ahead 2-0. As much as the Panthers battled, they would be unable to build a strong enough attack to get a shot off. Thus, the game would end in a 2-0 loss.
Head Coach
Meagan Fleming comments, "the Panthers are hanging with their opponents. But, once we figure out how to be more dangerous in the attack, look out!"
Up Next: The Panthers play Wednesday, October 6th, against Fontbonne University at 7:00 pm.
