Eureka, IL. - Principia Women's Soccer traveled to play the Eureka Red Devils. The Panthers shut down Eureka with a 3-0 win.
The Panthers dominated the play from the start, holding the ball in the offensive half and ending the first half with 11 shots on goal but no goals. However, it was a solid defensive first half, and Principia didn't allow many shots on goal by Eureka. Freshman Olivia Scott dominated the middle of the field in her position as holding midfielder. Scott stayed strong, winning the ball each time she tackled and then distributing to Principia's forwards and offensive midfielders
In the second half, the Panthers continued dominating the play, connecting passes and creating scoring opportunities. The game's first goal was scored by Viviane de Castro, who put a beautiful shot into the upper quadrant of the net, assisted by Georgia Rather. Shortly after that, Sophie Hills scored from near the 18, assisted again by Georgia Rather. The third goal was scored by Adriana Rucks, who put a header straight into the net off of a ball played by Kaija Ufert. The Red Devils back line put physical pressure on the Panthers' offense for the rest of the game, but it wasn't anything they couldn't handle.
"It was a tough game offensively because they had us down, but we were able to get over 20 shots. We are looking forward to Greenville on Saturday," commented captain Georgia Rather.
Up Next: Principia will play Greenville University at home this Saturday, October 23rd, at 3:30 pm.
