Elsah, IL. - Principia College Men's Soccer hosted the Greenville University Panthers in today's match-up. Greenville is 8-3-1 in conference play and has a top-tier offense, making today's game challenging. Principia brought some intense energy throughout the match but ultimately lost 1-3.
Within the first 15 minutes of the game, Greenville was up by two goals. Principia would not let that go unanswered, and once they figured out their defensive standpoint, they generated more offense and developed more successful attacks. Dillon Hussey saw an opportunity and shot the ball off the Greenville keeper's hands, where Juniour Baraza was in the position to put the rebound in the back of the net. Jacob Ellis had innumerable saves throughout the game, particularly in the first half, to keep the Panthers in the game.
Principia battled in the second half with Patrick Sherman and Walter Lazo, working hard to help the team attack. Sherman pressured their backs, and Lazo played with a lot of energy, as both created numerous attacking chances. Johannes Keller had a tremendous second half cutting out dangerous passes and blocking the opponent's shots with well-timed slides.
"I'm proud of how hard our team battled. In the second half especially, our guys laid everything on the field," commented head coach Jess Semnacher.
Up Next: The Panthers will be traveling to Louisville, Kentucky, to play Spalding University on Tuesday, October 26th, at 6 PM EST.
