LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Principia College women's soccer team traveled to play the Spalding University Eagles this afternoon. The Panthers lost 2-7 in a game that caught them on an off defensive day. The Panthers have many players working through different physical challenges but pushed through to give their best effort tonight. Despite the scoreline, there was a lot of beautiful soccer played by the Panthers.
The Panthers had a slow start and the Golding Eagles were able to capitalize on defensive mistakes. With the Panther's first goal, some beautiful combination play helped break the Spalding defense and score a goal off a corner by Georgia Rather. Viviane de Castro worked hard to get the ball down the field for a the Panther corner kick. De Castro took the corner and played it into Rather, who had a beautiful shot to the far left. The second half would bring similar results, with the Panthers building an attack but missing the mark.
The coaching staff was pleased with the combination play between the center midfielders and wing players, mainly due to de Castro, Edner Oloo, and Allie Bane.
"We didn't lose. We just ran out of time," commented assistant coach Lee Ellis.
