Women Lose to Knox and Illinois College in Season Opener

Jacksonville, IL – The Principia College women's swim team started their meet season by visiting Illinois College, where they swam against both the host and Knox College. Both teams outnumbered the women and thus lost to both (Prin – 56, IC – 157), but the loss to Knox was by only one point (Prin - 93, Knox – 94). There were some excellent swims and competitive races throughout the meet, and the results were a good start for the women.

The 200 Medley relay saw the team of junior captain CamiAbadie, junior Heather Savoye, sophomore Kassie Christensen, and freshman Avery Hanson swim a 2:09.54 to finish second overall. After the mile swim, Savoye finished 6th overall with a 2:25.85. The next event saw the women go 2-3, with Abadie getting 2nd in 1:07.66 and Hanson getting 3rd in 1:09.55. Later, Savoye got 2nd in the 200 Fly with a 3:09.78. Finally, Hanson and Christensen finished out the first portion of the meet by going 2-3 in the 50 free with 27.58 and 29.41, respectively. Christensen's time was a new in-season best time for her.

After a short break, the women were back in the water for the 100 Free, where Hanson and Christensen went 2-4 this time with a 1:01.51 and 1:07.50, respectively. The 200 Back saw Abadie finish 2nd with a 2:24.39 and followed that up a couple of events later with 3rd place in the 500 with a 6:19.90. Christensen finished 2nd in the 100 fly with a 1:18.00, and Savoye finished second in the 400 IM with a 6:06.12 for her first time swimming it.

The women-led Knox College throughout the meet and took a 14 point lead into the final relay. But, unfortunately, the women could only swim the relay for a time as they had used all their scoring events. So, despite beating Knox by going a 1:56.46 with Savoye swimming an in-season best relay split of 28.78, Knox took both 1st and 2nd in the relay against them and took the 15 points on offer to beat out the women by just 1 point.

It was a great effort by all the women and a solid start to the season.

Up Next: The women will be back in action on Nov 12 & 13 when they have their home opener against Lincoln College, Sterling College, and Williams Baptist University. Friday the 12th will start at 6 p and Saturday the 13th will begin at noon.
