Decatur, IL – Principia faced their first road test at Millikin University on Saturday, pulling off a 6-3 comeback win.
A look at the matches:
The Panthers couldn't get themselves going in doubles. A loss in a tiebreak at #2 (
Juan Segovia/
Drew Funke) made it a 2-1 deficit heading into singles. It took longer than expected, but the team woke up in time to take the match back. Funke dropped his first set at #4 before putting up a bagel (6-0) in the second and taking the third set tiebreak, 10-7.
William Johnson clinched the overall match with a rollercoaster win at #6. His 5-0 lead quickly turned into 5-5, but Johnson closed out the first set with a hold and a break. His serve and shot-making carried him through the second set without much more drama.
Rafter Sprague battled at #5 but took a tough loss.
Wyatt Dale (#2) got a great bounce-back win in another third set tiebreak, giving the Panthers a 6-3 team win.
Good to know:
The men adjusted to outdoor playing conditions on the road for the first time this season. A big match and opportunity to make a statement lies against Rose Hulman on the other side of spring break.
