Box Score Carlinville, IL - Principia College Men's Soccer traveled to Carlinville, Illinois to take on Blackburn College for the second time this season on Saturday morning.
A Look at the Game – Principia College Men's Soccer took another difficult loss on the road at Blackburn College. The game was back and forth, but Blackburn found the deciding goal in the final moments of the game.
The Panthers had a few notable absences going into this weekend's game so the depth of the team was tested. New starters included
Jay Ogbonna,
Dillon Hussey,
Jack Beckett, and
Connor Goering. Blackburn got on the front foot for the first 15 minutes of the game, but Principia's defensive line found their organization as the half continued and they began to control more of the game. In the 33
rd minute,
Pablo Alas took a free kick from near the center circle, sending it into the box where it bounced over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. The first half ended 1-0 in favor of the Panthers.
The Beavers tied the match on a free kick by Jaime Pineda in the 52
nd minute. Blackburn made it 2-1 five minutes later on a header by Anthony Coppotelli off a corner kick from Hayden Reese. Five minutes later, Blackburn struck again as Edmond Ainomugisha scored, making the score 3-1 in favor of Blackburn. Principia fought back and tied the score with a pair of goals from
Patrick Sherman in the 71
st minute and the 77
th minute (Principia 3, Blackburn 3). Yolo De Leon scored a goal at the 89th minute to give Blackburn College the win, 4-3.

The fact that we were able to fight back to a 3 to 3 score line after losing the halftime lead and getting scored on three times shows that this group has something that just won't allow them to quit. That fight has always been a foundation of our program and is something we will continue to build on."
