Box Score Elsah, IL – On Tuesday evening, Principia College Men's Soccer hosted Greenville University. It was the first game of the season on Principia's home field, played in front of a crowd of loyal supporters on a beautiful spring night under the lights.
A Look at the Game – The Principia Men were handed another difficult result against Greenville. 2 minutes into the match, Claudio Trevino scored a goal for Greenville on a breakaway, assisted by Jared McPeek. In the 24
th minute, Greenville struck again with a goal from Luis Duran. Principia fought hard to get back into the game before halftime and their work paid off in the 41
st minute as
Patrick Sherman slipped a neat pass through the Greenville back line to
Connor Goering who struck a hard shot that deflected off of a defender into the back of the net. It was a glimpse of hope that the Principia men needed as they entered halftime. (Halftime score: Principia 1, Greenville 2)
The first 20 minutes of the second half showed some good signs for Principia, but they weren't able to find the attacking chance they needed to tie the game. In the 64
th minute, Jared McPeek scored for Greenville to increase their lead to 3-1 (assisted by Carson Mueller). One minute later Napoleon Urquidi scored again for Greenville, assisted by Andre Dos Santos, giving them a commanding 4-1 lead. Principia was not done fighting, and the men continued to play with heart for the final 25 minutes of the game. In the end, they weren't able to find the quality chances they needed in front of goal and the match concluded 4-1 in favor of Greenville.
