Chattanooga, TN- Daniel Gomez represented Principia at the NCAA DIII National Singles Tournament on Friday.
A look at the match:
Gomez faced the tournament's #8 seed in the 1st round, Cameron Krimbill of Trinity (TX). The match was decided on the margins, mainly by Gomez' giving up too many opportunities to attack with his forehand. Neither player held serve for the first four games of the match before Krimbill closed out a service game to go up 3-2. The first set remained on serve until Gomez trailed 6-5 and Krimbill got the break to win the set, 7-5.
Gomez struggled to take momentum back in the second set and dropped three games before holding serve to make it 3-1. Krimbill closed out the match from there without dropping a game, leaving the final score at 7-5, 6-1.
