ST. LOUIS, MO – The red-hot Principia Men's Soccer team headed down to St. Louis on Saturday for a showdown between two of the top teams in SLIAC. The Panthers came in on a three-game shutout streak while the Gorloks came in with the top record in conference play thus far.
From the beginning of the game, Principia struggled to adjust to Websters high press. Rattled under pressure, the Panthers would go down one goal within eight minutes. Webster would go on to score two more goals in the half in the 24th and 32nd minute. The young Principia team fought back and off a corner kick late in the first half, they were able to get a goal back with
Leander Linsler's first collegiate score.
Principia came back a different team after the halftime break. The Panthers were able to move the ball around the field creating multiple scoring opportunities. Principia got a surge of energy when
Jonathan Keller scored his second of the season in the 71st minute, and they continued to build on the momentum to chase a tying goal. A prime chance fell to
Victor Dos Santos Reis after
Christian Tresoldi played a perfect ball off Reis' head, but it was ruled offsides.
Even though they worked hard to get back into the game, the Panthers would come up just short in a 3-2 loss. Goalkeeper
Torben Rehnert finished with 8 saves.
