ELSAH, IL – The Principia Men's and Women's Swim teams got their seasons started with a Pentathlon Intra-squad meet. Every team member swam five events. They each picked a goal time for every event. The closest to their goal time, by percentage, would win that event. The closest to their overall goal time (combination of all 5 events), by percentage, would win the meet. Senior
Heather Savoye ended up winning with a combined time that was .7 % from her goal time.
The first event – butterfly – was split into two events: the 100 and 50 distance. The women swam the 100 and the men the 50. Sophomore
Avery Hanson won the event, edging out junior captain
Kassie Christensen 1.4% to 2.5%.
The 100 backstroke was next and H Savoye edged Christensen in the event 2.3% to 3.1%.
100 Breast saw Christensen finally win an event after two second place finishes. She beat out freshman Coleman Swarts .4% to 1%.
Hanson took a second event win in the 100 Free by beating H Savoye 2.6% to 3.4%.
The 100 IM saw some strategic swimming as some swimmers tried to swim times that would allow them to win the overall rather than trying to win the event, while others tried to win the event. The event win went to senior captain
Camille Abadie by the closest of margins - .33% vs .49% - denying Hanson a third event win.
In the overall, everyone was within 8% of their goal time and the winning margin was only .4 of a percent. H Savoye edged out Christensen who finished within 1.1 percent of her goal time.
It was fun way to kick off the season, and to get the competitive juices flowing.
Up Next: The teams will swim their first official meet on Saturday, Oct 29 when they travel to Jacksonville, IL to take on the host Illinois College and Knox College. The meet starts at 1:00 pm.
