JACKSONVILLE, IL – The Principia College women's and men's swim teams opened their season in Jacksonville, IL where they took on the hosts Illinois College and Knox College. With contributions by every woman, the women swam to their first win in three years defeating Knox College 72 – 57. They were outnumbered by the women of Illinois College and fell 35 – 125. Every women contributed at least one Best swim to the cause. The men were significantly outnumbered and lost to both Knox 16-106 and Illinois College 17-103. The new men swam well in their first collegiate meet. It was a good way to get the season started.
The women were led by senior
Heather Savoye in the 200 Medley relay. The relay of senior captain Camile Abadie, H Savoye, junior captain
Kassie Christensen and sophomore
Avery Hanson swam to a second place finish of 2:07.91, in no small part to H Savoye's in-season lifetime best 50 breast relay split of 38.15.
The individual "Bests" started with Christensen in the 100 Fly where her 1:16.13 was a season best. Hanson followed that up with a season best in her 100 Free with a 1:01.26. Then Abadie brought home another season best with her 100 Back time of 1:07.68.
The women wrapped up the meet with the 200 Free Relay, where again, H Savoye showed her relay prowess by swimming an in-season lifetime best 28.71 to help the team to a 1:56.61.
On the men's side, sophomore
James Ives, swimming in his first collegiate meet brought home a season best in his 100 Free with a 1:31.73. Freshman Lucas Savoye, also swimming in his first collegiate meet, swam to two season best times: 1:05.30 in the 100 Free and 1:28.27 in the 100 Back.
It was a good and fun start to the season but there is much that can be worked on for the next meet.
The teams next meet will be their home opener when they will take on Williams Baptist University on Friday, Nov 11 and Saturday, Nov 12 in a split dual meet. Friday night will start at 6pm and Saturday will start at noon.
