GREENVILLE, IL – In a much-improved second bout with Greenville, the Principia Women's Soccer team came up short, dropping Saturday's contest 2-0 on the road.
The first 20 minutes of the game were a back and forth contest, with Principia pressing Greenville and creating chances. In the home team's first attacking chance, four minutes into the game, they struck and scored. Principia kept fighting with
Rachael Williams forcing the Greenville keeper into an excellent save. Subsequent shots from
Viviane de Castro and
Olivia Scott had Greenville on their heels. The first half would end 1-0 with
Renea Garza making several saves for the visiting Panthers.
Principia would start the second half strong with de Castro earning a penalty kick after just five minutes. Unfortunately, she was denied by the post, and that would prove to be Principia;s best chance to knot the game up. The home side kept pressing, and in the 82nd minute, got their second goal. The 2-0 lead was too much for Principia to come back from, despite some good chances off of corner kicks.
Up Next: The Principia women will host Westminster College on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
