ELSAH, IL - The Principia Women's Basketball team celebrated Senior Day at today's game against the 20-0 Webster Gorloks. Senior Rachel McLeod-Warrick was honored today as the team's lone senior concluding the game with the Gorloks.
Coach Ro said this about his senior player: "Rachel is one of the most genuine and loving people on campus. She will always do anything that she can for others. She is a great example of a Principia student athlete as she is hard working, fun, loving, and determined to succeed. Rachel has been a great teammate in her four years here, and she will be highly missed next year. She has been a blessing to coach and to get to know. We wish her nothing but the best in everything that she does."
The undefeated Gorloks brought their A-game right from the start with their pressure defense and high energy. The Panthers had one of their worst starts to a game this year as they went down 32-6 in the first quarter. The slow start was due to the inactivity of the offense to get into any kind of rhythm and with a lot of missed shots.
The Panthers calmed down in the second quarter and only fell behind an additional five points to end the half down 31. While the second half saw improvements, the Panthers were on their heels much of the game and never could really string several momentum plays together to stop the Gorloks' offensive prowess as the game ended in a 95-42 victory for Webster.
Coach Ro: "Webster is the top of the conference right now and the standard setter. They are a terrific team full of experienced players. We have to keep working the process and demanding of ourselves to improve each day to reach that level of play."
Up Next: The Panthers will finish the regular season this coming week with two away games - at Fontbonne on Tuesday at 5:30 pm and at Eureka on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
