ELSAH, IL - The Principia Men's Tennis team hosted a tri-match with Simpson College and Illinois College on Saturday and picked up two wins, pushing their record to 3-1 this season.
Everett Poznick and
Elliott Matthiesen survived a close one at #3 doubles in the first match against Simpson. They hung on by a break to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead before singles.
William Johnson played the most exciting match of the day at #4 singles despite coming up short in a third set tiebreak. Matthiesen put an exclamation point on the win with a victory in a third set tiebreak of his own, making it a 7-2 Panther win.
Principia got another doubles sweep against Illinois College with three routine wins. They followed that up by only dropping three games across the top five singles spots.
Japhet Hoff made his collegiate debut at #6 singles, and after dropping the first set, he came back to win the second and force a third set tiebreak. With the tiebreak even at 6-6, Hoff ripped off four straight points to take the match and deliver a 9-0 sweep for the team.
