ELSAH, IL - The Principia Men's Tennis team hosted the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Tuesday night and delivered a decisive 8-1 win.
Daniel Gomez and
William Johnson dealt with some unconventional tactics, but found their way to an 8-4 win at the top doubles spot.
Juan Segovia and
Rafter Sprague secured a lead going into singles with an 8-3 win at #2 doubles. The only loss of the night came at #3 doubles.
Gomez, the reigning SLIAC Player of the Week, cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at #1 singles. His doubles partner, Johnson, played really well at #4 singles for a big 6-1, 6-0 win.
UHSP has made great strides as a team in recent years and gave the Panthers some tough matches elsewhere in the lineup. Sprague played an exciting match at #3 singles and pulled through in a close third set tiebreak (10-8).
Elliott Matthiesen was solid at #5 tonight and got his best win of the season in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Everett Poznick fought for a great comeback win at #6, taking the second set and third set tiebreak.
Japhet Hoff also had another great exhibition match at #7 singles, winning 8-5.
