ELSAH, IL - The Panther Softball team hosted fellow Panthers from Greenville University on Saturday for a conference doubleheader.
Defensively, Principia's softball reclamation project showed continued progress, with only five errors between the two games, which ties their season low. Pitchers
Avery Cobb and
Victoria Columbus are feeling more and more comfortable knowing that the defense behind them will make plays when the ball is put in play. Of note,
Titra Staley exhibited fine play in left field with 3 nice catches. In game two, Principia held Greenville off the scoreboard in four of the first five innings to push the game past the mercy rule cutoff. Things unraveled in the sixth inning, but just getting through five only down 5-0 was an accomplishment.
The greatest need for improvement has become the team's hitting. Cobb broke up no-hitters in both games with Principia's only hits. The Panthers will look to get a few more hits in a rematch with Westminster on Tuesday afternoon in Fulton, MO.
