ELSAH, IL - The Principia Softball team celebrated Senior Day on Tuesday evening in their final home doubleheader against Fontbonne.
Team captain
Rosie Paul is the Panthers' only senior, and during Coach Crecelius' speech during the short ceremony in between games, he talked about how thankful he was for her contributions this season. Even though this was Paul's only season playing softball during her time at Principia College, she was very instrumental in recruiting players to join the team this spring so that they had enough to compete.
Despite two more shutout losses for the Panthers, their offensive MVP on Tuesday was tennis captain cross-over
Kelsie Huss, who was 3 for 4 on the day. Rosie's sister
Gracie Paul added another hit in the first game, while
Avery Cobb and
Heather Savoye tallied hits in game two. The Panther's defensive MVP on the day was Cobb, who pitched another gem allowing only three earned runs in six innings pitched with 3 strike outs. She also made an outstanding catch in the second game coming in on a fly ball hit to shallow center field. Freshman first baseman
Emma Franklin also played steady defense catching everything thrown or hit her way.
Up Next: The Panthers will finish out their season this Sunday afternoon against Webster at St. Joseph's Academy in St. Louis. The first game of the doubleheader is at 3 pm.
