FULTON, MO – The Principia Women's Soccer team entered their first SLIAC game of the season brimming with confidence on the heels of their first 3-game unbeaten run to start a season in over ten years. However, early errors in the game proved to be too much for the Panthers to fight back from.
The home side got off to a fast start, scoring in the 17th, 22nd, and 23rd minute. The Panthers made adjustments and stemmed the flow after the third goal, creating some goal scoring opportunities on the counter-attack and only allowing two more goals in the remaining 67 minutes for a 5-0 defeat.
"It was a real learning opportunity for us," explained Coach Thomas. "We haven't faced adversity like that yet this season, and our message to the team at halftime was clear. The first half wasn't acceptable, but how we respond from here is still within our control. I'm proud of the team because we showed real character in how we responded. We played much better, were harder to break down, created more attacking chances on the break, and gave a much better showing of ourselves in the second 45. We can carry that into our next game."
