ELSAH, IL – The Panthers' Men's Soccer team hosted Eureka College for a conference clash on Tuesday evening as they looked to bounce back from their first loss of the season. Since the team was down several key starters for Tuesday's game either due to injury or red card suspensions, some players who hadn't played as many minutes were forced into bigger roles.
The first half was a scoreless affair with both team creating chances. Matheus Dos Santos Reis was especially dangerous all night from center midfield as he sent a free kick off the post and another line drive shot forced the Red Devils' goalie to make a diving save. After halftime, Reis finally found the back of the net in the 56th minute for his first collegiate goal as he went top right corner past the diving keeper off an assist by Jimmy Woodrow.
Striker Nana Koranteng had multiple close calls that just missed adding to Principia's lead, but Reis' goal ended up being all the Panthers needed. Torben Rehnert had six saves on the night to help secure the victory and his second clean sheet of the season.
