WHEATON, IL – The Principia Men's Soccer team kicked off the 2023 season in the Chicago area against some strong competition in Wheaton College's Bob Baptista Invitational. The Panthers fell 3-0 to Kalamazoo College on Friday afternoon, and then lost to the hosts from Wheaton 3-0 on Saturday evening.
Some standout moments from the Panthers over the course of the weekend:
Diego Alas never stopped working, and he drew lots of fouls with his quick cuts and fancy skills.
Parker Boyce had strong hold up play from the attacking midfield. Center back
Leander Linsler shut down several chances from the opposition. Principia shots on goal came from
Walter Lazo,
Nacho Cachaza,
Christian Tresoldi, and
Jimmy Woodrow, while
Reginald Kihwele caught a nice volley outside the box that went just over the bar.
After the games, Coach Semnacher said: "We will need to work on our fitness, attacking, and breaking down low-block defense. We will be looking at the tape and working on how we move with and without the ball. This tournament was a good experience for our team to play against some very good teams before we start conference play."
Up Next: The Panthers return home for three consecutive home games, starting Thursday evening at 7:00 pm against local rival Wash U. Come cheer the team on in their home opener!
