ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, IN – The Principia Volleyball team traveled to Indiana for the season-opening Showdown in the Woods tournament hosted by Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. The Panthers faced off against four team over two days, falling 3-0 in each match.
Throughout the weekend, the Panthers were sparked by moments of consistent, competitive effort. The team competed in some close sets and exceeded early-season expectations. Principia was led by the consistent play of outside hitter
Neha Bandrapalli and setter
Alex Kibbe. Outside hitter
Sam Borton-Center's efficient offensive performance and great defensive play kept many of the matches close early on. Middle hitter
Dana Galinis led the team with 17 kills on the weekend, while fellow middle hitter
Meghan Mellor chipped in 7 kills. Borton-Center led the defensive effort with 28 digs.
Overall, Coach Davis was pleased with the team's start to the season. "Our goal for this weekend was to concentrate on systems of play," said Davis, "and I think the women made significant progress in this department. We look forward to continued improvement."
