EUREKA, IL – After a tough home loss to the Spalding Golden Eagles last Thurday, the Principia Men's Basketball team had another difficult matchup on the road against the Eureka Red Devils on Saturday. Both teams are fighting for playoff positioning within the SLIAC and needed this game to solidify their standings in the conference. Unfortunately for the Panthers, their offense was stymied throughout, and Eureka was able to comfortably win, 64-49.
Eureka jumped out to an early 17-9 advantage, but the Panthers fought hard to get back into the game. After an 8-0 run by Principia tied the game at 17 all with 8:22 left in the half, the Panthers would only score 5 points the rest of the half to go into the break down 26-22. After a sluggish start by the Panthers in the second half, Eureka held an 11 point advantage. A quick 6 point run by Principia made the score 42-37 with just under 10 minutes remaining. However, Principia's offense would run cold again, and Eureka would stretch their lead as the Panthers eventually fell 64-49.
Good to Know: The Panthers were led by Jaquan Adams and Isaiah Parker who had 14 and 12 points respectively. Principia is now tied with Eureka with 3 wins in conference, and will need to have a big run over the last 8 games of the season to make the SLIAC Tournament.
Up Next: Principia has a few days off before going on a southern road trip to take on Mississippi University for Women and Lyon College. Their next game is on Thursday at 7:30 pm at MUW in Columbus, Mississippi.
