COLUMBUS, MS – The Panthers Men's Basketball took to the road on Thursday for a rematch with Mississippi University for Women. After winning the first contest in Elsah, Principia was looking for a season sweep against MUW. Unfortunately for the Panthers, those plans were derailed early in the game, as they fell behind 17-0. Despite some solid basketball, Principia was never able to claw their way back from the early deficit, falling 77-48.
After a 8 hour bus ride, the Panthers were slow to get started on the court. A free throw from Bobby Alford finally got Principia on the scoreboard with 11:34 left in the first half, making the score 17-1. The Panthers would get down by 19 in the first half, but cut it to 40-26 at the half on a lay up from Charley Hoffman right before the halftime buzzer. The second half started with a three pointer by AJ Byrd to cut the lead to 11, but was quickly followed by an MUW three to push the lead right back to 14. The Panthers were unable to get any closer than 13 the rest of the way as they lost their third straight contest.
Good to Know: The Panthers were led by Jaquan Adams and Jordan Williams who had 17 and 12 points respectively. This loss dropped Principia to 3-8 in SLIAC play.
Up Next: Principia now has another long road trip from MUW to Batesville, Arkansas for a game on Saturday at 3:00 pm against Lyon College.
