Box Score EUREKA, IL – The Principia men's soccer team traveled to Eureka College on Saturday afternoon and earned a 3-1 victory, highlighted by
Christian Tresoldi's two goals and an assist.
The Panthers ongoing trouble with conceding early goals continued in this one as they gave up a goal in the first two minutes for the fifth time this season. However, Principia's defense would lock down by not allowing any more shots on goal for the remainder of the game.
With two minutes left in the first half, Principia earned a penalty kick after a Eureka handball in the box.
Christian Tresoldi stepped up to take the penalty, and though initial shot was saved, he quickly pounced on the rebound and deposited it home to equalize the game going into halftime.
The Panthers kept their momentum going early in the second half as they took the lead just four minutes after the break. Tresoldi set up
Jonathan Keller with a perfect pass into the box, and Keller one-timed the ball past the Eureka keeper for his third goal of the season for a 2-1 lead. Then in the 68th minute,
Effenberg Joya collected a rebound from a
Wizzy Afrani shot off the post, and quickly found an open Tresoldi, who sealed the win with his second goal of the game.
The win moves Principia into first place in the conference standings at 3-0-2. The Panthers will look to extend their strong run of form when they host MUW on Thursday at 7:30 pm.
