FULTON, MO – The Principia men's soccer team battled Westminster College to a 2-2 draw against on Saturday evening in a hard-fought road SLIAC game.
The match started in familiar fashion for Principia, as Westminster scored in just the 4th minute, continuing the Panthers' unfortunate trend of conceding early. Principia pushed for a response and found it just before halftime. In the 43rd minute,
Leander Linsler scored his second goal of the season by capitalizing on a rebound.
Jonathan Keller's shot hit the far post and bounced right to Linsler, who swiftly fired it past the Blue Jays' keeper to bring the Panthers level at 1-1.
The Panthers carried that momentum into the second half as they took a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute. A ball sent into the box took a deflection off the Westminster defense and fell right to
Wizzy Afrani, who fired a low shot into the far post for his first goal of the season. Principia's strong defensive play would hold Westminster at bay for most of the second half. However, with just 30 seconds remaining, the Blue Jays managed to find an equalizer, dashing Principia's hopes of securing their second straight conference win.
Despite the draw, the Panthers remain unbeaten in conference play with a record of 1-0-2. They will look to continue improving their standing when they host Blackburn College on Tuesday evening at 7:30 pm.
