ELSAH, IL – The Principia College men's soccer team earned a commanding 4-1 victory at home against Blackburn College on Tuesday evening. Led by a stellar performance from senior
Parker Boyce with a goal and two assists, the Panthers improved to 2-0-2 in SLIAC play with five games remaining.
Principia got off to a quick start, with defender
Leander Linsler opening the scoring in the 7th minute. After Linsler tried to direct a header on net off a corner kick, the ball went off a defender, fell to his feet, and he hammered it home for his third goal of the season. The Panthers then doubled their advantage in the 36th minute on
Effenberg Joya's team-leading fifth goal of the season. Boyce dribbled around a Beavers defender in the corner and delivered a perfect pass to Joya in the box, who finished far post to give the Panthers a 2-0 cushion at halftime.
In the 79th minute, Boyce created another Principia goal on a very similar play. This time, he dribbled past two defenders on the wing before finding
Christian Tresoldi, whose shot deflected off a defender and past a diving Beavers keeper. Blackburn managed to break the shutout soon after, but the Panthers responded in the final minute as Tresoldi returned the favor to Boyce, setting him up for a clinical finish into the top corner to seal the big win.
The Panthers will look to continue their unbeaten run in conference play when they travel to take on Eureka College on Saturday for a 12:30 pm kickoff.
