ELSAH, IL – The Principia College women's soccer team delivered their first victory of 2024 on Tuesday evening as they defeated an undermanned Blackburn College squad. The Panthers controlled the game from start to finish, firing 63 shots and scoring 12 goals.
Mirsa Boyer,
Dachelle Carter,
Makayla Kurtz, and
Olivia Scott each found the back of the net in the first half, giving Principia a 4-0 lead at the break. The second half saw the same four players score again, joined by
Kaylee Kleist,
Sarah Smith,
Zoe Houseman, and
Aylin Acosta. Acosta and
Amarachi Ejimadu led the team in assists with three apiece, while
Shayla Kelley had two of her own. Scott, Houseman,
Zayana Brown, and
Sana Udoekong also contributed one assist each.
Blackburn goalkeeper Izzy Harrington finished with 20 saves and played quite well considering she faced constant attack from the Panthers. Principia's
Leslie Barrera and
Christin Walls each played one half in goal, and though they didn't face any shots from the Beavers, they did still earn their first combined clean sheet of the season.
The Panthers will look to build off this momentum when they travel to face Eureka College on Saturday to take on the Red Devils at 2:30 pm.
