ELSAH, IL – The Principia men's basketball team was conquered by the Knights of Wartburg College on Saturday as they defeated the Panthers 85-70 in Hay Field House.
Wartburg built an early lead, which got as high as 28-14 with 7 minutes remaining in the first half. The Panthers would fight back with a 10-0 run – including 6 points by
Bobby Alford III – to cut the Knights lead to 4. After a
Nolan Simon three-pointer got the deficit down to 3 with 4:40 to go, Wartburg build their lead back up to 41-31 by halftime. The second half was all Wartburg as they led by as much as 23 with 11 minutes remaining. Marshun Williams scored 30 points for the Knights as they would close out the game with a 15-point victory.
For the fourth time in five games, the Panthers were led by sophomore
Nolan Simon who finished with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. Fellow sophomore
Bobby Alford III added 16 points and 7 rebounds, while senior
Isaiah Parker contributed 15 points and 3 steals.
This game was Principia's lost non-conference home game of the season, and the team will begin SLIAC play next week at Fontbonne University. Come watch the Panthers play in St. Louis on Tuesday, November 26 at 7:30 pm!
