ELSAH, IL – The Principia men's basketball team lost their conference home opener to the Spalding Golden Eagles on Thursday evening. The Panthers kept the game close for much of the second half but Spalding would pull away in the final eight minutes to claim a 69-59 victory.
After heading into halftime down 38-30, Principia fought their way back in to begin the second half. With 8:53 remaining,
Demetrius Torrence hit a big three-pointer to cut the deficit to just one at 48-47. However, that be as close as the Panthers would get as the Golden Eagles built their lead back up to 13 before the game ended in a 10-point Spalding win. Principia was led by
Bobby Alford III who finished wiith 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
Isaiah Parker and
DeMontrel Jones also finished with 10 points apiece.
The Panthers will be right back at it on Saturday at Eureka College as they go for their first SLIAC win. The game will tip off at 3:00 pm.
