TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Panthers Track & Field team competed at the Gibson Invitational at Indiana State University on Friday and Saturday in their final meet before the SLIAC Outdoor Championships. Colder temperatures and gusty winds made conditions difficult on Saturday for the sprints and jumping events.
Corey Carter produced another highlight to his senior season as he added another school record to his resume in the 400m dash. His time of 48.07 broke Raleigh Ragan's 48.10 record from 1985 and took fifth place on Saturday in a field of Division I athletes. The new PR moved Carter up to #22 in the nation for Division III this season and earned him his third SLIAC Track Athlete of the Week award of 2024.
Jimmy Woodrow and Sarah Erickson both had massive personal best performances in the 5K on Friday evening. Woodrow ran a 16:13, improving from his time of 17:41 at the WashU Distance Carnival. Erickson also improved on her PR from the WashU Distance Carnival (22:21) finishing with a time of 20:56.
Rex Heath cut eleven seconds off of his personal best in the steeplechase and moved up to #9 on Principia's top ten list, finishing with a time of 9:46.61. Nana Koranteng completed an impressive double, finishing the 400m with a time of 50.10 then coming back an hour later with a 1:57 in the 800m. Dillon Hussey ran a personal best of 59.59 in the 400m hurdles as he broke 60 seconds for the first time. Sarah Fakorede came away from the weekend with three new personal bests in the long jump, 400m, and the 200m, while Kannon Gill also had a personal best in the 200m.
Up Next: The Panthers are poised to step up again next weekend at the SLIAC Outdoor Championships. The conference meet will be held at Greenville University on Friday and Saturday, April 26th and 27th.
