ROCHESTER, NY – Six weeks before the 2025 NCAA Division III indoor track & field national championships, Principia junior
Nana Koranteng had never competed in the triple jump. 45 days later, he traveled to Nazareth University in western New York to compete at the national meet ranked 17th in DIII.
A soccer player and 400m / 800m specialist before this season, Koranteng asked to compete in the triple jump in January and then shocked everyone. In his first competition, he broke the Principia school record. The second time he competed, he earned a qualifying mark for nationals, jumping over 47 feet.
On Saturday in Rochester, Koranteng attempted three jumps in the preliminary round. His third jump was 14.39 meters, just 2 cm off his personal best from earlier this winter. Koranteng was not in the top 9 after the first round, so he did not advance to the finals. He finished in 13th place out of 20 competitors, earning USTFCCCA Second Team All-American honors.
Koranteng is a true competitor who brings laughter and energy to every practice along with hard work and determination. This is a big hop, skip, and jump in a long journey, and he will be back for more in the outdoor season.
Congratulations, Nana!
