JACKSONVILLE, IL – The Principia Track & Field team competed in their second meet of the outdoor track season at Illinois College on Saturday in the True Blue Open. A competitive Division III field attended the meet including WashU, Millikin, Monmouth, and Greenville.
Corey Carter followed up his standout opening meet with another strong performance on Saturday. In the highlight performance of the day for the Panthers, Carter and
Nana Koranteng finished first and second overall in the men's 400m. Carter finished with a time of 48.32 (21st in the nation) as he improved his personal best by half of a second and was just two tenths of a second off of Raleigh Ragan's school record of 48.10 from 1984. Koranteng broke 50 seconds with a strong final 150 meters with a time of 49.97.
Carter also took first place in the 200m dash with a time of 21.48. Then in the final event of the meet, Carter and Koranteng teamed up with
Dillon Hussey and
Howard James for a new season-best of 3:24.03 in the 4x400m to finish in third place ahead of both Greenville teams. On Monday, Carter was named SLIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight week.
Elsewhere,
Amarachi Ejimadu improved her 400m personal best from WashU by over a second and finished 9th with a time of 1:03.43. She is just three tenths of a second from breaking into the top ten list.
Rex Heath took first place in his first steeplechase race of the season with a time of 9:57, a two second improvement on his personal best from the 2023 season. Heath also finished sixth place in his first time competing in the javelin.
Jimmy Woodrow and
Zach Proctor finished neck and neck in the 1500m and later each PRed in the 800m.
